What is Neck Hernia/Pain?

Neck Hernia: There are 7 very small vertebrae in the neck. Between each vertebra is a cartilage tissue called a disc. If the necessary precautions are not taken, these discs can wear out over time and overflow the spine, causing neck hernia. As a result of herniation, pressure may occur on the nerve root or spinal cord. Severe and burning pain, numbness, tingling that spreads to the arm and hand, and muscle weakness in the hand or arm in advanced cases can be seen in neck hernia.

What are the Symptoms of Hernia of the Neck?

Mild neck hernias are manifested by attacks of neck pain. Pain increases when working in the same position for a long time and during seasonal transitions. In moderate neck hernias, there may be constant pain. In severe neck hernias, the hernia puts pressure on the nerves that go to the spinal cord and arms. Neck pain may or may not be present, but the main symptom is pain radiating to the shoulder, arm, and fingers. C3-4 hernia causes intense pain in the neck and shoulders.

C4-5 hernia causes pain radiating to the shoulder and outer face of the arm. C5-6 hernia can cause pain and numbness radiating to the shoulder, arm, elbow and sometimes the first 3 fingers. C6-7 hernia can cause pain  and numbness radiating to the scapula, left arm, elbow, armpit, and sometimes the ring and pinky fingers. These symptoms may be accompanied by weakness in the arm, forearm, wrist, and fingers. It can happen without realizing it. If the pain is very severe, it increases at night, is not relieved by changing positions, increases in some positions, does not respond to painkillers.
