What is Lumbar Hernia/ Low Back Pain?

It is the pain caused by the musculoskeletal system or the compression/squeezing of the nerve roots coming out of the spinal cord, which is usually caused by the strain of the lower back muscles or the ligaments in the spine. Very rarely, it can occur due to serious reasons such as infection, arthritis, primary or metastatic tumors. It is the pain that we call mechanical low back pain, which is most commonly caused by the involvement of muscles and ligaments. Low back pain (lumbar hernia) due to nerve root involvement is seen in only 1% of patients. Low back pain takes the second place in the loss of working days in many countries and is accepted as the most important factor affecting the decrease in production. It can occur at any stage of life in 80% of the entire world’s population. Pain can be seen in 55-90% of adults. Low back pain is a recurrent problem that increases and decreases.

What are the factors that cause lumbar hernia/low back pain?

  • Sedentary life; With the weakening of the muscles, the injury and herniation of the discs occur with the entire load on the spine.
  • Making sudden movements when the body is not ready; when lifting, pushing, or getting out of bed, etc. Wrong and sudden movement directly puts pressure on the spine.
  • Being overweight; Unbalanced weight causes damage to the discs as it will put additional load on the vertebrae that are not supported by strong muscles.
  • Sedentary work life, heavy-duty work, or doing sports incorrectly
  • Injuries; Accidents such as falling from stairs
  • Smoking, excessive alcohol and caffeine; causes fluid loss and impairs healing
  • Working without changing positions for a long time without being at a desk
  • Frequent driving; sitting for long hours and the added motor vibrations can put pressure on the spine and discs
The above mentioned are among the risk factors for herniated disc and low back pain.

What Does the Treatment Include?

Unlike classical physiotherapy applications, we solve the soft tissue limitation in the body with the help of tools, balance our muscles with special stretching-strengthening techniques, and finally we strengthen the body and enable you to have pain-free and abundant active days by providing the connection between the body and the brain with special therapeutic exercises.

Our goal is not only to heal you, but also to prevent you from being injured again. Apart from thinking about the physiotherapy rehabilitation practices you know so far, we want you to prepare for pain-free and active days with our current treatment and preventive approaches.

After treatments in each session, our patients perform their medical exercises in our centre under the guidance and supervision of a physiotherapist.
